Embracing The Fundamental Shift In The Future Of Mobility

We sat down with our Country Service Manager, Scott Linley and our Head of Sales Corporate, Danny Persaud to take a dive into the world of Enterprise Mobility.

1. Why did CHG get into the mobility market?

CHG has always looked to keep pace with ICT innovation and trends, from centralised to de-centralised computing and now with various hybrid computing models. This approach of continuously adapting enables us to offer our existing customers new and useful solutions based on an ever-changing landscape. It also helps us to acquire new customers interested in forward thinking solutions and to integrate new partners into our solutions.

2. What are your experiences of this in the workplace?

As is clearly the case, everything in the workplace and of course at home is becoming connected (accessible), interactive and monitored. Mobility has always been part of CHG’s portfolio of assets and we’ve seen our clients improve their network speeds (fixed and wireless) and also purchasing more powerful devices with increased functionality. With the lowering of data airtime and data charges alongside the rise in popularity in tablet and hybrid devices, mobility - as a result, has become more commoditised. Clients are now less focused on the speed of a network, but more concerned with the capacity and breadth with the ability to stay reliable and secure.

3. What is CHG's approach to the market?

The ability to provide our customers with the opportunity to acquire different technology yet harmonise all these into a structured model. For example, some clients have different mobility requirements that are driven by specific projects, one device type, one approach may not be suitable. We support and encourage the ethos “right tools for the right job.” For instance, users being given the choice of their preferred and favoured tools that enables them to be as productive as possible.

4. How important is it for a business to implement a mobility strategy?

Having a mobility strategy is as important, if not more important, than any other technology strategy in a workplace. Historically, we have seen that companies have had their device and network tied together because this was the industry standard. Our mobile strategy is enabling our customers to see the benefits of un-bundling this service and taking advantage of the financial solutions for the hardware, whilst also being able to select the best tariff available. We expect to see this pattern continue as more organisations adopt this model and fully understand both the financial and technical advantages.

5. How is CHG's EMS solution changing industry standards?

Our customers are breaking free from the "bundle package" that network providers are offering today. We accelerate the unbundling process and can provide benefits such as lowering your TCO, providing greater transparency and increasing your flexibility. All of which aligns with CHG’s technology lifecycle strategy for all IT solutions.

6. How does mobility lifecycle compare to other technologies in the workplace?

Mobile devices typically have a shorter lifecycle than other end user devices such as laptops or desktops. This faster refresh cycle means that devices are moving in and out of the business more regularly. It's important to have a mobility strategy that encompasses the entire lifecycle, and that the technologies and protocols that are put in place support the business requirements with as little overhead as possible. Putting in place technical tools and processes can be natural for some organisations, yet the administrative processes surrounding the acquisition of technology can place a huge burden on a business. We've helped a lot of organisations to develop strategies that make the processes around the technology lifecycle more aligned to the business requirements, which is still something that holds a lot of companies back in their ability to be agile.

7. Why are people moving away from the carrier 'tech fund' approach?

More businesses are noticing that it's not a sustainable model, and it's a model which we've seen dissolved in other countries. The tech funds have been a way to attract and retain customers with a pot of gold, but essentially it's being hidden in the tariff package. It's not free money and there isn't really a value proposition there. There isn't the transparency in those solutions, which a lot of organisations have growing demands around. We're seeing the people in procurement functions being much more aware of that, and they are looking at the alternative options that are more aligned to the overall technical environment, rather than mobility in isolation. We encourage our customers to look into their current network package and find out for themselves the benefit of separating the handset from the tariff.

8. What do you see for the future of EMS?

Enterprise mobility allows organisations to offer a more flexible environment then was ever thought possible. Employees are no longer tied to their desks for the 9-5 grind – this is the workforce of the past. A key factor in this generational shift is the convergence of desktops and mobiles. With mobiles providing access to email, web browsers and the Microsoft Office package employees can now complete 90% of their tasks on their mobility device. This increased flexibility is giving organisations the capacity to boost their employee’s productivity. Our EMS solution supports this fundamental shift in the future of mobility.
