About Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust

Mid Cheshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust became registered as a Foundation Trust in April 2008. The trust runs Leighton Hospital in Crewe, Victoria Infirmary in Northwich and Elmhurst Intermediate Care Centre in Winsford. The hospital provides its services to approximately 300,000 people in the surrounding areas.

The Trust needed a rolling replacement of their current endoscopy services as the existing fleet consisted of multiple pieces of equipment that were becoming technically obsolete and no longer fit for purpose. The Trust was looking for a simple, cost-effective solution that could provide them with the best equipment available on the market today, supported by an experienced partner who could fulfil the rollout across multiple hospitals.

CHG-MERIDIAN provided the trust with a 5-year lease agreement, which included the immediate replacement of £1.5m worth of endoscopy equipment across 2 of the hospitals within the Trust. Additionally, CHG also purchased a number of pre-existing customer owned scopes and rolled these into the agreement in the form of a ‘sale and leaseback’ model. Negotiated within the agreement was a pre-defined replacement of existing scopes in years 2 and 3 to ensure the Trust’s equipment remained up-to-date with maximum operational capacity. Running alongside all the equipment was manufacturer service contracts to guarantee the equipment remained in an effective working condition and provided the Trust with the confidence that in the event of breakdown their equipment would be back up and running as soon as possible.

CHG-MERIDIAN flatlined the costs for both the capital and the service element, meaning the customer pays one pre-defined annual payment fee, providing the benefit of 0% inflation and making budgeting easier by providing clear, transparent costs. All the contract management was tied together by CHG’s in house asset management system, TESMA®, which also created additional VAT savings for the customer. The flexibility and transparency that CHG’s solution could offer the Trust resulted in significant cost savings and puts the trust in a strong position whereby their equipment is consistently refreshed.

“CHG-MERIDIAN provided us with a straightforward agreement that allowed us to keep our technology up-to-date and also allowed us to have a full rolling replacement, which was more cost effective in the long run. Furthermore, this also gave us the power over the manufacturer to negotiate the best possible price on both the service element and also the capital cost. Lastly CHG’s asset management, TESMA® has provided us with complete transparency over the solution in addition to the bonus of VAT savings!”
